Masterworks from Budapest. From the Renaissance to the Avant-Garde

From 18 February to 28 May 2017

A carefully selected group of 90 works from the permanent collection of the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery will be on view at the museum since February 2017.

The Budapest Museum of Fine Arts, founded in the 19th century, owns extensive collections of Old Master and modern paintings, works on paper, and sculptures. The Hungarian National Gallery was officially established as a national museum in 1957, though it actually dates from 1802, and houses Hungarian artworks.

The group of works shown in Madrid give an idea of both institutions’ holdings through paintings, sculptures and drawings by great artists such as Dürer, Raphael, Annibale Caracci, Leonardo da Vinci and Peter Paul Rubens, as well as Spaniards like Velázquez and Murillo. The exhibition also includes a magnificent selection of works by Hungarian artists, among them Károly Ferenczy and Sándor Bortnyik, from the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery.

Curators: Guillermo Solana and Mar Borobia.
