Monographic course: Heroines

From 09 March to 04 May 2011

In parallel to the exhibition Heroines, the Museum is organising a monographic course led by Rocíó de la Villa, professor of Aesthetics and Art Theory at the Universidad Autónoma, Madrid. Organised into 8 sessions given by different experts, it will focus on the depiction of women in active roles in western art. Amazons, maenads, nymphs and bacchantes are some of the models selected to locate these roles in the cultural, literary and social context. The lectures will take place on Wednesdays from 5.30 to 7pm, between 9 March and 4 May, in the Museum’s Lecture Hall. Enrolment is open from 21 to 28 February for Friends and students of the Complutense and Autónoma Universities, and from 1 to 8 March for the general public. Bookings can be made on www.museothyssen.org or on tel: 902 760 511. Price: 40 Euros for students; 80 Euros for Friends; and 100 Euros for the general public.
