Travelling with the painting: Vienna

Travelling with the painting: Vienna

From 14 to 17 May 2011

Vienna is the chosen destination for the next trip offered to Friends of the Museum, following behind one of the Museum’s most famous paintings: Woman in the Bath, which will be included in the exhibition Roy Lichtenstein. Black & White 1961-1968, organised by the Albertina Gallery (until 15 May). The exhibition also includes a preparatory drawing of this work, loaned from a private collection. During the trip we will also visit the exhibition on the Blue Rider Group at the Albertina, in addition to the works on permanent display from the Batliner Collection by artists including Monet, Degas, Cézanne and Picasso, and the Albertina’s outstanding drawings by Dürer and Rembrandt, among others. Travelling with the Painting sets off on Saturday 14 May. The trip will last four days and will include visits to other major museum in the city including the magnificent Kunsthistorisches Museum, the comprehensive collection of paintings by Gustav Klimt in the Belvedere, the Leopold private collection, the Fine Arts Academy and the Liechtenstein palace. In addition, there will be walks around the imperial city to admire its Baroque architecture, visits to the Viennese Secession Building, the chance to attend the outstanding concerts programmed in Vienna, and welcome breaks in the city’s fin-de-siècle cafés.
