IN-DEPTH: American Painting in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum

From 18 to 27 October 2011

The educational programme In-depth: encounters with the works returns this autumn with a new theme. On this occasion it will aim to focus participants’ attention on the Museum’s collections of American art, which are among the most important areas within both the Permanent Collection and the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection. The course will trace the development of art in the United States from the Hudson River School landscape painters up to Pop Art and will start on 18 October with a session given by Carmen Bernárdez, Titular Professor of Art History at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, and the director of this course. There will be two further sessions in the galleries followed by a final lecture on 27 October by Estrella de Diego, Senior Professor in Art History at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, who will conclude the event by leading an informal discussion.
Enrolment opens on 3 October for university students and Friends of the Museum, and on 10 October for the general public. Bookings can be made by telephone, on 902 760 511, or online.
