Between October 1844 and the following year the pianist and composer Franz Liszt made a lengthy tour around Spain. During his time in Madrid he gave his first concert in the Palacio de Villahermosa, the building that has been the home of the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza since 1992. In the 19th century the Palace was one of the most celebrated private residences in the city, a meeting place for artists and intellectuals and the venue for numerous cultural soirees. As this year draws to its close, the Museum will be recalling Liszt’s visit, which is commemorated in a plaque on its façade on the Carrera San Jerónimo, and will thus be taking part in the bi-centenary celebrations of the birth of the celebrated Hungarian composer. On Sunday 18 December at 7pm the Spanish pianist Silvia Torán will play the Three Petrarch Sonnets, Les Jeux d’Eaux à la Villa d’Este and the Sonata in B minor. TICKETS SOLD OUT
