Art Routes. In Focus/Out of Focus

Art Routes. In Focus/Out of Focus

From 01 February to 25 March 2012

Between 1 February and 25 March a new course will take place within the programme exclusively organised for Friends entitled Art Routes.Tours around the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection. In Focus/Out of Focus takes works in the permanent collections as its starting point in order to look at the idea of the unfocused gaze as a key element in modern art. As Goya revealed in his prints, the visible fuses with our desires, fears and projections of reality, while the Impressionists made use of the unfocussed in order to depict landscape and events from daily life without having to separate the visible from the corporeal sensations that it provokes. The course will look at works by Jan van Eyck, Ghirlandaio, Ribera, Titian, Rembrandt, Monet, Cézanne, Picasso, Bacon and Rothko as well as Cubist collage, the Surrealists’ “Exquisite Corpses” and US 1950s “all over” painting. The sessions will take place in the galleries while on Sundays there will be a focus on filmmaking in the Auditorium with excerpts from films specially selected by the teacher with the aim of illustrating the classes with exceptional images.

Booking starts on 16 January online clicking in the link below, on the Friends’ telephone line 91 127 82 22, and on 902 76 05 11 from 9am to 8pm. Price: 150 Euros.
