Travelling with the painting: Munich

12 to 15 May 2012

This year, Travelling with the Painting takes Friends of the Museum to Munich, following in the footsteps of Max Beckmann’s painting Quappi in a pink Sweater (1932-34). This magnificent portrait of the artist’s wife will be included in the exhibition Women. Pablo Picasso, Max Beckmann, Willem de Kooning organised by the Pinakothek der Moderne and focusing on the female form in the work of these three great masters. Given that this year marks the Thyssen’s 20th anniversary, the trip will include a private tour of the Alte Pinakothek, which was frequently visited by Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza in order to compare the quality of works offered to him for his collection. The various tours included in this trip will be led by Fernando Checa Cremades, holder of the Spanish National Prize for History and Senior Professor of Art History at the Universidad Complutense.
