Vincent van Gogh
Paysage sous un ciel mouvementé

In conjunction with the exhibition Impressionism and Open-Air Painting. From Corot to Van Gogh, the Museum has organised a monographic course (from 20 February to 17 April) entitled Open-Air Painting and modern Landscape. Based around the works on display in the exhibition, it will analyse the evolution of plein air painting over the course of the 19th century.

The course takes the form of eight lectures to be given by leading art historians, university professors and museum curators, including the exhibition’s curator and the course director, Juan Ángel López-Manzanares. These lectures will focus on issues such as outdoor painting’s relationship with academic tradition, empirical observation and the rise of science and with the new trends in art that turned away from naturalism.

Preferential enrolment for students and Friends of the Museum opens on 5 February, and one week later, on 12 February, for the general public.
