George Grosz Metropolis (1916-1917) (detail). Oil on canvas. Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid.
The Museum has organised another activity in its series Reading Workshop A painting / A book, exclusively offered to Friends. To coincide with the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I, this course will relate George Grosz’s painting Metropolis (1916-1917) to one of the 20th-century’s key novels, Berlin Alexanderplatz by the German writer Alfred Döblin. Both Grosz and Döblin made use of Expressionism to capture the birth of a fragmented world. The workshop will also include a reading of Stefan Zweig’s autobiography The World of Yesterday. A painting / A book will be led by Javier Morales. Booking opens on Tuesday 29 July on the Museum’s website and on tels: 91 127 32 22 / 902 760 511. Price: 120 Euros. Matrícula
