To coincide with the exhibition Miró: Earth, the Museum will be showing four documentaries in July directed by the film-maker Pere Portabella. Among the films selected are two of the documentaries that form part of a trilogy which the Catalan director made on commission from the Col.legi d'Arquitectes de Cataluyna for the exhibition Joan Miró held at the Col.legi in 1969. One of these is Miró Aidez l’Espagne in which Portabella used archive images of the Spanish Civil War, alternating them with prints from the Barcelona series created by Miró in 1937 in order to commemorate the combat. Another is Miró l’Altre, a film characterised by the close collaboration between the director and the artist at a time when conceptual art, the ephemeral nature of artistic production and political committment were the key points of reference. The other two documentaries that complete the series are Miró La Forja and Miró Tapis, both made in 1973 on commission from the Maeght gallery in relation to the exhibition of Miró held at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1974.
