Sargent: early Spanish and Venetian Paintings

Sargent and Sorolla’s careers come closer at the period when Sargent focused specifically on Velázquez and on subjects such as flamenco dancers and the Alhambra, which he studied during his trip to Spain in 1879. His enthusiasm for Spanish art and music and for the unique nature of the country would have a significant influence on his work.
