FRIENDS: NATURE´S NATION: A SURVEY OF 19TH -CENTURY AMERICAN PAINTING - Art Routes

05/02/2008 - 09/03/2008

Nature´s Nation: a Survey of 19th -century American Painting is the new route organised by the Museum this year for Friends. The course runs from 5 February to 9 March as part of the Art Routes programme, offered exclusively to Friends of the Museum and given by Ana Velasco.

The course will analyse how the new nation of North America was obliged to gorge its own myths and the way in which painters such as Cole, Church and Headr encountered them in the spirituality and purity of the natural workd around them. A fascination with travel and an equal interest in daily life are the recurring themes in the work of this pioneering generation of American painters.
