The music of four great 20th-century composers – Debussy, Ravel, Schönberg and Webern – forms the programme of a new concert organised in association with a temporary exhibition and exclusively offered to Friends of the Museum.

Debussy and Ravel worked in Paris at the beginning of the century while Schönberg and Webern were based in Vienna at the same period and the work of these four great musicians can be seen to function in a manner comparable to painting: while visual images freed themselves at this time from the necessity of offering a lifelike depiction of the subject, music abandoned traditional tonality. The concert thus offers a broader vision of artistic creation in general and a more complete portrait of the art of the century of Picasso.

The concert will be held on Sunday 6 May at 8pm. Tickets on sale 26 and 27 April at the Museum’s ticket desks.
