AUGUSTE RODIN
(Paris 1840-1917)

The four Rodin sculptures that form part of the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection were commissioned by August Thyssen, grandfather of Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen, directly from the sculptor in 1905, forming the beginning of what would become one of the most important private collections of the 20th century.

We invite you to discover the beginnings of a collection and explore the work and technique of a master sculptor.

RECREATING SPACE

We propose a walk through four works from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection to discover different ways of conceiving and representing space in paintings. From a naturalistic space that offers a city view, to a Cubist feminine portrait where space has to be recreated in the mind, passing to an Impressionist landscape constructed with light and colour, and a work in which planes of colour penetrate into your own space.

PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUES AND ART CONSERVATION

Photography is the most utilised practice for the physical study of works of art.
Through these techniques we can find out states of conservation, execution techniques used by the artist, and the degree of bio-deterioration to the work of art from external factors.
