Born in Ferrara, he worked as a painter at the court of the family of the Estes between 1479 and 1486. We can appreciate in his work influence of Cosme Tura, also from Ferrara, and the Venetian Giovanni Bellini. He has, however, a personal style, shown by his particular nervous sensibility and a deep feeling in the religious works. After visits to Bologne and Ravenna, he returned to Ferrara, where he died being again in the service of the Estes.
