Probably born in Louvain, he worked in the corporation of craftsmen of Malines before taking refuge in Germany because of religious persecution. He returned to his land in 1575, where he was appointed painter of the court of the Archiduke Matthew, with whom he returned again to Germany, dying in Frankfurt. His landscapes appear to be the figment of his artistic imagination, but an attentive observer will find well-defined topographic motifs.
