The influence of Impressionism on Chase's style is obvious in this luminous landscape, although the most radically fragmented of the Europeans has been toned down. The brushstroke comes from a greater ease and fragmentation in the foreground of the work and gradually thins down until it becomes a flat surface in the limpid sky.
