Stuart Davis first saw avant-garde painting at the Armory Show, in 1913 when when the painter was only 19 years old. He was deeply impressed by the PostImpressionists, but it was *Cubism* that most affected his style, through collage and the geometric simplification of the forms. In Sweet Caporal the artist has created a fiction of collages of commercial labels, in which has been seen the fascination for the modern world of his country with increased use of technology. In the top part we can see the text "U.S. AMERICA".
