Basing himself on Chevreul's scientific theory of colour, Delaunay created, from 1912 onwards, the series "Windows" and "Discs" on the simultaneous contrasts in colour, producing an almost abstract work that Apollinaire described as Orphic Cubism. This picture belongs to this period and, although there is still a minimum figurative reminiscence -we recognize the figure of a woman with a parasol in the centre-, what prevails is the coloured rhythm, which expresses a dynamic sensation based on music.
