Ernst himself warned people it was useless to try and interpret his painting rationally, since it is marked in this period by the influence of the reading of Freud in The interpretation of dreams: a personage has his back to us, from which a strange object emerges (¿a revolving eye?) and another from his chest; a circle, a lamp and an enigmatic interior in which we can see flying objects. Painted in 1922, after his move to Paris, it presages the language of Surrealism because of the surprising nightmare world it offers us.
