Using the teachings of the classical still-life, Harnett has created a sensation of extreme realism -almost tactile- in the depiction of these everyday objects, which semm to practically come out of the canvas. The sensation of careless composition does not prevent a sensation of premeditated elaboration on the part of the painter.
