A fundamental and very significant work in the language of the German Expressionists and essential in Kirchner's production. painted at two moments, in 1914 and modified in 1925, it offers us with great force the vision that Kirchner and the other members of the group had of the city. Some streets of arbitrary colour and anguishing perspective serve as a backdrop for a scene of prostitution. The main figure is a "cocotte" dressed in red, surrounded by anonymous beings, with mask-like faces. It is the consideration of the city as a centre of corruption.
