In this work Bourdon follows very closely the teachings of Poussin, the master of Classicism, both in colour and the treatment of the personages. It belongs to his fully mature period and is an example of his best style. It shows us a Holy Family with a pyramidal composition, an imaginary walled city serving as a background.
