This little panel has been attributed to Dieric Bouts by various specialists, but, in the last few years, recent analyses have made them think that this work can be attributed to a painter close to the master. The beautiful landscape in the background serves as a frame for this singular spatial composition through various planes of depth: the brocade, the built up base and, finally, in the foremost position and on a carpet of leaves, the stylized figure of the Virgin in visual communication with her son in her arms.
