With an interesting iconography, this panel -which probably belonged to the poliptych of the hospital of Santa María della Scala, in Siena -tells us about the moment when the Saint, accompanied by a sister from her order, tries to persuade the Pope to return to Rome and leave Avignon. The lateness of the date -1460 was the year of the coronation of St. Catherine - indicates a certain stagnation in the master's style with regard to the advances of the Renaissance in Italy.
