It is this attractive interpretation of the image of Anne Jagellon, the daughter of King Ladislao of Hungary and Bohemia, who inherited the throne on the death of her brother Louis II. She was married to the Archduke Ferdinand of Austria and, so, was the sister-in-law of the Emperor Charles V. The precise drawing, the minute attention to the detail of embroidery, fabrics and jewellery and the soft colouring give this work notes of high quality. During his stay at the court of Insbruck, Maler painted the sovereign's portrait on several occasions.
