PICASSO, Pablo Ruiz Bullfight,
1934
Oil on canvas 54 x 73 cm
Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid
In this work we can see the change that has taken place in Picasso in the period from the end of the twenties, when he approached Surrealism. His work becomes more tormented and infuriated, as we can see in this bull, dislocated and horrific, and in the horse with the raised head, in its death throes. This language of tension will lead a few years afterwards to its culmination in Guernica.
