Experimental Avant-garde art

Experimental Avant-Garde was the name given to the movements that took shape from 1907, with the start of the quest that led to Cubism, to 1924, when the first Surrealist manifesto was published. They shared a deep-seated desire to break away from existing art forms; to materialise as an organised group with a programme of its own; and the firm conviction that they were laying the foundations of a new world. The main movements were Cubism, Futurism, Orphism, the Russian avant-garde movements: Suprematism and Constructivism, Dadaism and De Stijl.
