Surrealism, figurative tradition and Pop Art Figurative painting was a permanent feature of the last 100 years and had all sorts of artists and schools, although they do not make up a continuous style. Far from being a continuation of traditional art, figurative painting, in its various guises, was a trend that participated in the very essence of artistic modernity. From Surrealism and Pop Art, Realism and its complementary Formalism in the 1930s; to Social Realism and the London School in the second half of the century, the Museum offers a complete panoramic view of the different variants of figurative art in 20th century European and American painting.
