Restoration Research
Conservation is the main responsibility of the museum on behalf of its legacy.
Conservation and Restoration are fundamental pieces of the activities of the museum and are intimately related to the investigation task. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum's effort on knowing in depth its collection is a priority for its future conservation.
The Restoration Department owns an equipment that is permanently being renovated and it enables modern studying methods for the works of art. Complete photographic studies using macro digital photographs with visible light, UV light photographs, IR reflectographies and X rays are made.
It also has a laboratory of chemical analysis that covers the information needs for possible restoration treatments, analyses aspects that refer to the composition and behaviour of materials used in works of art, and is involved in different investigation projects with other institutions.
