Thirty years have passed since the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza first opened in October 1992. Since that time museums have evolved from being guardians of cultural heritage to a more public/community-based role. The recently approved definition of a museum emphasises that change by featuring the terms “inclusivity”, “accessibility”, “sustainability” and “ethics”.

With this aim in mind, we will be reassessing the future of museums with the help of Teresa Reyes Bellmunt, president of ICOM Spain; Sofía Rodríguez Bernis, director of the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas; José Luis Pérez Pont, managing director of the Consortium of Museums of the Comunitat Valenciana; Marta Pérez Ibáñez, teacher, researcher and president of the Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo (IAC); and Juan Ángel López-Manzanares, curator and head of content at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, who will be the event’s moderator.
