The programme devoted to the depiction of the seasons of the year in works in the museum has now moved on to its fourth edition. Scenes of bathers, moments of relaxation and leisure are among the summer activities encountered time and again over the centuries. Landscapes with intense, cloudless blue skies or with just a few typical cumuli convey the atmosphere of summer that illuminates and brightens some of the collection’s galleries.

The tour continues in the Royal Botanical Garden where an expert will explain the characteristics and changes of plants in summer, from their typical colours to their heady scents.

For Friends unable to attend in person there will be an online tour accessible via the Microsoft Teams platform which will offer the chance to discover how painters have represented summer in works in the museum.
