An art historian, content creator and member of the LabThyssen panel of experts, Sara Rubayo is leading a new course organised by the museum in collaboration with CUPRA City Garage Madrid and aimed at both Friends and the general public. Over two sessions, she will be analysing evolution and speed in the art world, from the culture of the Italian and Flemish Primitives and the Renaissance to the accelerated pace of the present day.
The first session, entitled Slow Time: from Symbol to the Everyday, takes place at CUPRA City Garage Madrid and focuses on how works from the Renaissance and Baroque periods are conceived to be contemplated for a long time and how the eye is trained to calmly decipher symbols.
The second session, which will take place in the museum’s Balcony-Gallery, is entitled When the world Steps on the Accelerator and explores the changes that took place between the 19th and 20th centuries, with the emergence of industry, the train, photography, cinema and modern life, which also affected artistic creation, concluding with the current visual culture of continuous scroll.
