The artist’s brain: a journey through perception and creation. Dr Jesús Porta-Etessam
Arising from a new collaborative agreement between the museum and the Spanish Society of Neurology, this lecture is the first in a series of talks aimed at non-specialists which will be presenting neurology through works in the collection, promoting public interest in this scientific field and its socio-sanitary role.
In recent years there has been increased interest in learning about the brain functions involved in the creation of art from both the perspective of the creator and that of the viewer, in order to determine which areas activate when we admire a work. We also know that illness has on occasions been an inspiration for artists, and has even been reflected in some avant-garde styles.
These issues and more will be the subject of the talk given by Dr Jesús Porta-Etessam, president of the Spanish Society of Neurology.
