A journey through song before the Lied

The exchange of masterpieces between the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid and the Mauritshuis in The Hague encourages a rediscovery of their collections of 16th- and 17th-century art, an era in which painting and music from these territories shared close ties. 

In conjunction with this exhibition, the museum and the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation are presenting a recital featuring soprano Núria Rial, accompanied by Carles Blanch on the baroque guitar and lute and Olegue Aymamí on the baroque cello, will be offering a journey through songs and dances to be heard at the courts of these European cities. Works by Luys de Narváez, Diego Ortiz, Juan Vásquez, José Marín and Gaspar Sanz engage in a dialogue with those of the great Flemish masters, evoking a refined soundscape. An intimate voyage through the world before the Lied, where music, like painting, becomes a mirror of its time.
