Between 1898 and 1909, Vilhelm Hammershøi lived at number 30 Strandgade in Copenhagen, where he produced more than 60 paintings. Some depict empty rooms, others feature women, often with their backs turned, reading or performing household tasks. All of them conceal a story open to the interpretation of the viewer.

The museum is launching a competition relating to the exhibition on Hammershøi. To take part, write a micro-story of no more than 25 words and post it on Instagram and/or X. It must be based on the painting Interior with a woman sweeping, Strandgade 30 (1908) and include the phrase: "the door had no handle.” *

Write the story in the comments section on the museum's posts about the competition on Instagram and X. The eight most original texts – four on each social network – will be awarded a catalogue of the exhibition Hammershøi. The listening eye.

Entries can be received up to 25 April. The winners will be announced on 2 May.
