Despite its significant presence in western culture since antiquity, esotericism has not played a prominent part in the narratives of art history.

With the aim of centring on less familiar fields and subjects, this new online course will explore the relationships between modern art and cultural currents such as theosophy, anthroposophy, magic, alchemy, astrology, spiritism, occultism, Eastern philosophies and other “alternative spiritualities” which acquired new popularity at the start of the modern age. Through key works, movements and artists the course will look at cultural history with an interdisciplinary gaze that allows for the presence of other art forms such as literature, dance, music and film.

The course is divided into two modules taking place in June and September. It will be given by Professor Irene López Arnáiz on the Microsoft Teams platform.
