Following the success of the first edition, the museum is now offering the second part of the course In situ / Ex situ sponsored by Visit Flanders, which focuses on the evolution of Flemish painting in the 20th and 21st centuries.

The course programme focuses in detail on the work of 20th-century and contemporary artists, exploring pieces conceived specifically for the spaces in which they are currently exhibited and establishing connections with works in the museum's collection. Through this approach, the transformations of artistic language in Flanders, a region historically linked to pictorial innovation, are analysed in depth, as is how their legacy engages with current practices.

The five sessions, devoted to Rysselberghe, Ensor, Cubism, Surrealism and art in Flanders in the 20th and 21st centuries, allow for a study of different contemporary creators and an understanding of how issues such as the gaze, materiality and the relationship with the environment survive (and are reinterpreted), providing new keys to understanding the relevance of Flemish art in the context of today.

The course is available both in person and online and is taught by professors Almudena Rodríguez, Teresa de la Vega, María Corral, María Cunillera and Pepa Mateos.
