The new edition of The Thyssen on the street offers Friends the chance to enjoy a guided tour of the exhibition The other Face of the Avant-garde at Fundación Mapfre, for which the museum has loaned two works from its collection: Twilight by George Grosz and Autumn Evening by Emil Nolde. Based on the publication The Art of the Mentally Ill (1922) by the German psychiatrist and art historian Hans Prinzhorn, the exhibition addresses the relationship between avant-garde art and works made by patients with mental illnesses: works that influenced the search for new directions in modern art and the subsequent emergence of Art Brut.
This activity is completed with a visit to Women Artists: Pathways through Preraphaelitism (1850-1914), an exhibition that focuses on the role of women artists in this movement that emerged in Victorian England, including Elizabeth Siddal, Julia Margaret Cameron and Evelyn De Morgan.
