In collaboration with TBA21, an institution created by Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza to commision and promote contemporary art, the Museum hosts this exhibition, presenting two installations by the Indian artist and filmmaker Amar Kanwar, The Sovereign Forest and The Lightning Testimonies, whose practice is defined by the gathering of testimony of India’s most vulnerable populations. The first one is an ongoing project initiated in 2011 and comprises films, books, photographs and documents presented as an archive with the aim of exploring the social and environmental impact of mining in Odisha, a region in eastern India. The second one is a multi-channel installation that reproduces recollections of sexual violence and kidnapping endured by members of India’s different cultures.
