Rauschenberg: Express. In and Out of the Studio
As part of the international commemoration of the centenary of Robert Rauschenberg's birth (1925–2008), the museum, with the support of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, is presenting a special installation based on Express (1963), one of his most representative works, which belongs to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection.
Curated by Marta Ruiz del Árbol, senior curator of Modern Painting at the museum, the installation offers new perspectives on this key piece in the artist's career. It explores both the sources of its rich iconography and the experimental impulse that led Rauschenberg to break down boundaries between disciplines and collaborate with creators from fields such as dance, performance, visual arts and science. Attention is also paid to the importance of this work in his international recognition, when he received the Grand Prize for Painting at the Venice Biennale in 1964.
This proposal is part of a year of global activities and exhibitions that revisit the figure of Rauschenberg from a contemporary perspective, highlighting his influence on current artists and his firm belief in art as a tool for individual and social transformation.
A unique opportunity to rediscover one of the great innovators of the 20th century and reflect on the relevance of his artistic and ethical legacy.
This project is supported by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.
