1 May: museum closed.

Argentina and its art scene are the focus points of this year’s ARCOmadrid 2017. The Museo and the Argentinean Ministry of Culture will thus be joining forces to present Ultramar: Fontana, Kuitca, Seeber, Tessi, on display in two galleries of the permanent collection and comprising six paintings by 20th- and 21st- century Argentinean artists – Lucio Fontana, Guillermo Kuitca, Alejandra Seeber and Juan Tessi – which establish a dialogue with the most modern works in the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection.

In addition to a restricted use of colour, the assembled paintings also share an interest in painting as a terrain of exploration and the treatment of the spatial dimension of the canvas through radical gestures such as cuts and holes or through the inclusion of external elements which extend beyond the limits of the painting.
