Focus on the Work: Millicent, Duchess of Sutherland

The April edition of Focus on the Work invites Friends to discover Millicent, Duchess of Sutherland by John Singer Sargent. During this activity Sac-Nicté Couoh, an IE student and intern in the Department of Modern Painting, will analyse the way the artist succeeded in capturing not only the textures and the reflection of light on the fabrics but also the personality of a woman who defied the conventions of her time. This is a unique opportunity to understand portraiture as a dialogue between status, fashion, and psychology.
