Magdalena Moreno Morales is an Afro-transvestite singer-songwriter and performing artist born in Santander, Colombia. Based in Bogotá, she leads the group La Morena del Chicamocha, a musical and performance ensemble which reinterprets the sung dances of the Colombian Caribbean with an emphasis on bullerengue. Her performative narrative denounces violence and affirms body diversity.

Moreno Morales’s work is characterised by an articulation of oral tradition, drumming and performance with an explicit artistic and political stance: bullerengue as a tool for freedom, gender rebellion, cultural resistance and symbolic reparation against racism, machismo and transphobia. Her work has been performed in Colombian cultural venues and institutions such as the Teatro Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, the Sala Gaitán and the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo, as well as at festivals and cultural events such as the Barranquilla Carnival, the Bogotá Book Fair, the Medellín Book Festival and the MIM LATAM in Panama, among others.

In 2026 the tour of Moreno Morales’s project will be accompanied by the launch of the single Standing tree, available on digital platforms.
