Focus on the Work. Shinnecock Hills by William Merritt Chase

This September, Clara Marcellán, curator of Modern Painting at the museum, will devote the latest edition of “Focus on the Work” to Shinnecock Hills by William Merritt Chase. 

Her talk will include a discussion of Chase’s activities as a teacher and a leading exponent of Impressionist plein air painting in the United States. This is an opportunity to discover the meaning of Chase’s landscape and to reflect on what the artist shows in the canvas, as well as what lies outside it, which is crucial for an understanding of the work.
