This year Sissy Spruance, Andrew Wyeth’s model for his painting My young Friend (1970) in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Permanent Collection, visited the Museum. She agreed to be interviewed, which gave us the first opportunity to hear the story from the other side of the painting. Sissy recounted how she and the artist met and became friends and what posing for her portrait involved. Thanks to this unique opportunity we now know more about the relationship between a painter and his model, which is always an enigmatic one.
