New Carlsberg Foundation
The New Carlsberg Foundation is a private and independent foundation dedicated to the arts. It was founded in 1902 by the brewer Carl Jacobsen and his wife, Ottilia Jacobsen, with the aim of supporting and promoting Danish art.
In this context, the term "arts" encompasses not only visual arts but also industrial art, architecture, and landscape design, including expressions that connect the visual arts with other artistic forms and contexts.
The foundation seeks to promote the role of art in Danish society, firmly believing that art has the power to enrich human life and the world. Its mission is to act as a driving force that highlights art as a tool to foster critical thinking and a more nuanced view of the world.
The New Carlsberg Foundation supports the catalogue for Hammershøi. The Listening Eye, the first retrospective in Spain dedicated to Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864–1916), known for his serene interiors and introspective portraits.
