The first part of this course focused on the process of creating a work, the preparation of the materials, the day to day life of artists and the evolution of restoration procedures. This second module will look at artistic techniques that emerged in the 20th century, including collage (American painting), dripping (Jackson Pollock), serigraphy (Robert Rauschenberg), assemblage (Dadaism) and decalcomania (Max Ernst), with a final session on printmaking.

The course will also analyse the impact of technology on artistic creation, from the invention of the camera obscura to debates on art in the age of mechanical reproduction.

Professor Susana Blas will be giving this course in two forms: online via Microsoft Teams for the Friday group; and live in the museum’s galleries for the Sunday group.
