The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya has housed an important representation of Catalonia’s artistic heritage since its foundation in 1934. Following the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, the Catalan authorities organised the protection of the works in the collection in order to safeguard them from the risk of bomb damage.

Friends can learn more about this historical episode from the guided online tour of the exhibition organised by the MNAC: Museum in danger! The protection and management of Catalan art during the Civil War. Through vintage photographs that show the movement and transport of the works the exhibition’s curators Mireia Capdevila and Francesc Vilanova explain the procedures adopted while paying tribute to the endeavours of all the individuals and entities involved in the safeguarding of cultural heritage during the war.
