The Sea, a Living Legacy
The thematic tour created specifically for this collaboration with Grupo Consorcio invites visitors to approach the collection from a fresh perspective, focusing on the importance of water as a connective thread throughout human history and on its richness and complexity as reflected in art over the centuries. The journey begins with an immersion into the classical imagination of the sea as a mythical space through the work of Sebastiano Ricci, Neptune and Amphitrite. From there, the narrative moves towards a more tangible dimension of water as a route of communication, exemplified in the work of Canaletto, where the circulation of goods and ideas reflects a society in transformation.
Works by artists such as Jacob van Ruisdael and Winslow Homer introduce visitors to the dangers of maritime labor and the harshness of life connected to the sea, while also serving as powerful examples of the sublime representation of the ocean in painting. In addition, the itinerary encourages reflection on the direct relationship between human beings and marine resources, placing particular emphasis on fishing, markets, and gastronomy. In this context, works by artists such as Emanuel de Witte, Raoul Dufy, and Natalia Goncharova allow visitors to explore themes connected to culinary culture and artisanal craftsmanship. Finally, works such as In Port, by Albert Gleizes, broaden the notion of water as an element that shapes cultures and economies, reflecting the emergence of a modern society both in subject matter and artistic language.
Ultimately, this tour offers an opportunity to engage with the aquatic world through a variety of perspectives and visual languages, while encouraging reflection on its relevance today: water as an element that connects us all, whose preservation depends on responsible practices that respect more natural rhythms and foster a more conscious and balanced relationship with our environment.
These visits will be available starting in September 2026.
